Law Clerk
Born and raised in southern Illinois, Josh learned that there is no substitute for hard work and that is what he brings to the clients of the law firm. Josh is a rising 3rd year law student at St. Louis University – School of Law and law clerk with the Schmittgens Injury Law Firm. Joining the team in May of 2025, Josh has quickly put his practical and legal skills to work representing the firm’s clients.

Prior to law school, spent more than a decade defending the Constitution of the United States of America. After graduating high school, Josh became a U.S. Marine, and while serving our country, he deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. After 4 years of service in the Marine Corps, Josh continued his public service, working as an EMT and as a federal land management law enforcement officer.
Josh’s passion for service led him to seek more and in 2026, he enrolled at SLU Law. Since beginning his studies, Josh has been elected as President of the Law Students for Veterans’ Advocacy as well as assisting his professor in updating the preeminent worker’s compensation case law book.
Prior to his studies at SLU Law, Josh earned his B.A. in criminal justice from American Military University and his M.S. in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism from the University of Illinois.
Josh has seen first hand the value of having a strong advocate in your corner. From the battlefield to the courtroom, it is always better to bring someone who knows how to win and that’s what Josh knows how to do. While working for the Schmittgens Injury Law Firm, Josh assists Rob in investigating liability, drafting relevant documents, and preparing cases for trial. While he is not yet a licensed attorney, Josh has already assisted in trying a case to a verdict.
When he’s not at the office, Josh and his wife Morgan live in Festus, Missouri. Together they spend their time gardening, experimenting with canning recipes, walking their dogs, and relaxing by the fireplace. Josh is a proud member of local VFW Post #3777 and Marine Corps League Detachment #707. He also tries to sneak away to go hunting and fishing as often as his schedule will allow.
